Chile: Minister of Transport Announces Changes in Regulations for CNG Vehicle Use

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz Abogabír, announced a new decree that modifies the current regulations and allows vehicles that can be converted to CNG to be extended up to 15 years old in Chile. This change aims to promote a cleaner and more affordable transportation system, particularly for the Magallanes region.

Muñoz Abogabír emphasized the importance of reducing emissions and the need for a sustainable transportation system. He also highlighted the efforts of Congresswoman Javiera Morales, who advocated for the extension of the type of vehicle that can access CNG conversions, as well as the efforts from the Seremi (regional ministerial secretariat) of Finance.

The ministry conducted a pilot plan to test the safety of the conversion, the change it generated in emissions, and the results showed that the converted vehicles produced significantly lower emissions. This led to an easy decision to implement the change, according to Muñoz Abogabír.

The Regional Governor, Jorge Flies, also participated in the announcement ceremony in Punta Arenas and expressed his excitement for the news, stating that it would greatly benefit the Magallanes region.
