Argentina: Misiones Delivers the First CNG Vehicles of “Ahora Taxi” Program

The Governor of Misiones, Oscar Herrera Ahuad, led the delivery of the first natural gas vehicles in Posadas, acquired through the “Ahora Taxi” program. This is a provincial project that aims to help renew the local taxi fleet by subsidizing drivers up to 50% of the value of a brand-new car.

The Mayor of Posadas, Leonardo Stelatto, emphasized the importance of continuing to work with the program to provide better quality service to all taxi users. The Commercial Manager of Auto Misión (Fiat dealership), Diego Wendel, commented on the delivery of more cars and the possibility of doubling the number of beneficiaries in the province of Misiones.

The vehicles delivered to the first beneficiaries of the program are Fiat Cronos, which include the installation of CNG equipment and the corresponding identifying paint. While the government subsidizes up to 50% of the value of these new cars, the remaining amount can be financed through a loan from Banco Macro, with the option of paying it in up to 36 installments and a subsidized interest rate of 25% annual nominal.

Due to the pandemic and the subsequent stoppage of activities, the timely renewal of vehicles used for the taxi service has been hindered. Some of these vehicles were close to expiring their validity period to be authorized as taxis. The objective of the program is to facilitate renewal and is not intended to incorporate more vehicles. The municipalities that participate in the program are Posadas, Puerto Iguazú, Eldorado, and Oberá.
