Conversion of Vehicles to CNG Grows More than 300% in Rio Grande Do Norte

The number of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle conversions in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, increased by around 320% in the first two months of 2022 compared to the same period last year. The data is from the Secretary of State for Traffic of Rio Grande do Norte (Detran/RN) and refers to vehicles regularized by the agency.

In January and February 2021, 150 conversions to CNG were made in the state. In 2022, the number jumped to 481. The growth is due to the increased competitiveness of natural gas. While liquid fuels go through successive price increases, CNG registers a rate drop.

“In addition to the savings provided by the use of natural gas as fuel, Potigas also has the ‘Put gas with a bonus of one thousand reais’ promotion, which further speeds up the return on investment of the conversion,” explains Franciney Souza, Commercial Manager of Potiguar Compañía Gas (Potigás).

The demand for converters has increased so much that vehicle owners now need to schedule installation.

Also according to Detran/RN data, the state currently has more than 52,000 converted vehicles.
